Cover Alt Text Is the Title of the Picture, Not “image”

Each post can set coverAlt. The site uses that for the image, or falls back to the title. SVG covers still need a sentence a screen reader can use.

Google Discover wants a large raster. I already wrote that our covers are SVG. Alt text is a different job: what the picture is.

Frontmatter

coverAlt is optional. Empty means the post title. I fill it when the picture is a diagram, not a decoration.

Same rule as the subtitle. A human hears this.

Social images prefer raster. SVG covers do not become OG automatically. That split is in the Discover post. Alt is for the page.
